About me
I’m an animator and independent filmmaker based in Australia, who has made short experimental animations since the 1980's.
Originally I studied in Melbourne where I attained a Bachelor of Arts and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Fine Art Painting at RMIT followed by Graduate Diploma in Film and Television in Animated Film at the Swinburne School of Film & Television.
I began my career in animation making several award-winning short animations in Melbourne and worked as freelance animator, illustrator and designer in Australia and Europe. I gained qualification in learning and teaching in higher education in 2005 in the UK, where I worked full-time as a senior lecturer teaching animation. I returned to Australia in 2021 and also completed a Graduate Certificate of Educational Design in 2023 at Monash University, Melbourne.
My films have screened at numerous animation festivals and some of my films have been cited in books about animation, notably in 'Animation: A World History' (2015) by the animation scholar Giannalberto Bendazzi, in the Volume 2, Chapter 17: Australia - Avant-Garde Animation, p. 433, and in the Volume 3, Chapter 7: Oceania – Australia, p. 332.
Currently I am working on animation projects under my own business AZpiral, located in Studio 12 at the Nook Gallery & Studios in Mornington, Victoria.
